How does the Classic program work?
The Classic school program allows participants to study in a local public school and have an authentic experience abroad, but they cannot choose the destination within the United Kingdom. Placements can be in any part of the country, except in Northern Ireland. Although a placement in an urban area is possible, many host families live in smaller towns and villages. Students placed in England or Wales will be enrolled into Year 12 UK, the first year of A-Levels at a school and study 3 or 4 subjects of their choice (pending availability). Most students placed in Scottish secondary school are enrolled into Year S5 where they will study 4 to 6 subjects.
For what type of student is this program a good fit?
- Open-minded students ready to experience a high school program anywhere in the UK
- Students that do not wish to participate in a full academic year program
- Students who want to have an authentic exchange program experience
Students stay with a friendly, welcoming family based across England, Scotland or Wales, and like other family members, they will share the family’s everyday life, participate in activities, and adapt to the family rules as if it were their own. British homestay families receive a monthly reimbursement, and students should be flexible regarding the composition and location (they can have children or not, live in a house or in an apartment, etc.). Students stay at the homestay during local school holidays.

| “I know it’s a typical thing to say, but I enjoyed everything. I don’t think I can pick out one thing and say that I’ve enjoyed that more than another thing, ‘cause each thing I’ve experienced has a meaning to me in different ways. I am so pleased with the host family I got. (...) I’m really happy that I got to stay with them and get to know them. It has been a really fun experience to live with someone else and create this bond between us. They are so nice to you and treat you as you were a part of their family. They listen to what you have to say and make sure that you feel welcome and are happy.” Pernille, MyEducation student from Denmark.
