The country
Italy is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. High art and monuments are to be found everywhere around the country. Its great cities of art, like Rome, Venice and Florence are world famous and have been attracting visitors for centuries. Besides its art treasures Italy also features beautiful coasts, alpine lakes and mountains. No wonder it is often nicknamed the Bel Paese (beautiful country).

The Area Choice Option gives the students the possibility to choose the final destination of their exchange program. The program availability is limited.


> NORTH WEST: Torino (first capital of Italy), FIAT and Nutella, Juventus, Cinque Terre and Italian Riviera, Alps and skiing
> LOMBARDIA: Milano and fashion, amazing lakes
> NORTH EAST: Venezia with its gondolas and Carnival, Verona, city of Romeo and Juliet, skiing in the Dolomites, bilingual Italian-German
> CENTRAL NORTH: Tuscany and Florence, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Palio of Siena
> CENTER: Rome with its Colosseum and thousand of monuments, St Peter’s, Vatican city, sunny beaches, delicious traditional food
> SOUTH: sun, Naples and the Amalfi Coast, Salento, history and culture, olive oil, beaches and sea
> ISLANDS: sea and beaches, gelato & granita, ancient Greek temples

School Life
Italian school is quite difficult and expectations are high. Participants will be enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of the five years of the scuola superiore program; they will follow classes in a local liceo from Monday to Saturday morning. Classes include Italian, Mathematics, Sciences, Physics, Foreign Language (English, German or French), Geography, History, Physical Education... The school year runs from September to June.

School day
> 8.30 am to 1.30-2.00 pm
> Saturday classes may be allocated

Host families are volunteering and they can have children or not, live in a city, a town or in a countryside, in a house or in an apartment.

Terms of participation
- be min. 14 and max. 18 upon arrival
- Have good academic results
- Have a minimum of 1 year of Italian lessons
- Have travel insurance covering sickness, accidents, repatriation and third party liability

Financial Terms
Included: host family search, screening and placement process - accommodation as described - school registration - transfer on arrival - 24 hours emergency support - coordinator assistance & progress reports - orientation meeting - WEP support to obtain the permit of stay - administrative costs.
Not included: return transportation - local transportation - school costs - lunch if taken at school - personal expenses - travel insurance - passport & visa fee.
